Well, I finally started. This is the first post of my new newsletter. The name of it is Boy Meets Data.
Why am I doing this?
Well, a few reasons
1.) It's a great way to document things that I (or my children) may return to someday and revisit.
2.) I usually post on LinkedIn. However, LinkedIn limits how much you can post, so now I can be longwinded.
What will I talk about?
My frame of reference is data. It's how I've earned a living for the past 17 years of my career. It's what I know and what I love. However, I'll probably talk about three branches:
1.) Strategy
2.) Leadership
3.) Execution
If you can get those three things right, you can do anything. I haven't mastered it yet, but I'm on the journey. The best thing we can do as practitioners is document our paths. We should leave the breadcrumbs for those who come after us to follow.
What should the people know about me?
I plan to write a future newsletter article about myself and my background. It's interesting (to me) but also straightforward. My path has been mainly a straight line with a few bumps along the way. My superpower is that I know what I want, what I like, and what I don't like. So, I double down on what I like and eliminate what I don't like.
What should you know now?
I'm working on releasing a few courses this year. The audience is data professionals looking to grow their careers. I'm targeting particular personas.
Entry-level/Junior to Senior individual contributor
Senior individuals contributor to manager
manager to senior manager
senior manager to director
Why am I creating courses?
I spent many years of my career wanting to get to the next level and falling short. I thought it was because of my leader. However, I soon realized it was because of me. I needed to prepare and learn how to navigate career advancement and development. I know now that it's a deliberate step. Senior levels are something other than what you fall into. So, part of this newsletter will be digging into creating the courses.
I hope you continue to read as I put out more content. Make sure you subscribe to this newsletter so that you continue to get the new articles are this get published.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us all. I'm excited about learning from your experience.
